CAT UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) |
| |
Power disturbances can cost business significant money
due to:
* Lost Labour
* Lost Data
* Wasted Material
* Lost Productivity
Critical loads can now be protected with the CAT Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). This product is supplied and installed exclusively through McCormick Macnaughton.
The CAT UPS uses flywheel energy storage, substantially more reliable than conventional
lead-acid battery UPS systems.
Advantages over batteries include: * Low Maintenance - the flywheel does not wear out. * 98% energy efficient - versus 90-93% for conventional systems * Compact - the footprint is just 1 square metre (per 250 kVA) * Temperature independent - hot or cold conditions do not affect performance and service life. * One for one generator sizing - the harmonic filter removes harmonics back to genset. Flywheel recharges in fraction of the time required for batteries drawing only 75 amps.More Info

Control Systems |
| |
All Caterpillar gensets are fitted as standard with EMCPII control panel. This panel allows the generator to be started manually or automatically from a remote signal. These panels use digital metering and true RMS monitoring to provide advanced monitoring, metering, control and protective relaying capabilities. All panels are fully compatible with Caterpillar annunciators, remote communication and expansion modules.EMCPII+ panel offers a higher grade of metering and protective relays.EMCPII+ P panel provides fully automatic and manual permissive paralleling capability. Synchronising and load sharing are added to EMCPII+ power metering and protective relaying to provide a state-of-the-art paralleling system, which is self contained within the generator set.

Load Transfer Panels |
| |
All Caterpillar generators can be supplied with automatic load transfer panels to allow automatic changeover between mains and generator during power outages.
|
 |
Sound Attenuation |
| |
All Caterpillar generators can be supplied with sound attenuated enclosures to reduce noise to acceptable environmental levels. All enclosures provide full weather protection. Silencer systems and fuel tanks are incorporated within the enclosure.The beauty of sound proofed enclosures is that site installation costs are kept to the absolute minimum, as there is no need for civil works.Where the installation takes place inside a plant room, McCormick Macnaughton can provide sound attenuated louvres and exhaust systems to reduce overall noise level to specified levels.

Fuel Systems |
|
| |
Many of the smaller Caterpillar and Olympian generators have their own built in fuel tanks.On larger units McCormick Macnaughton can supply daytanks and bulk fuel storage tanks with fuel transfer systems and pipework to suit any installation or specification.

EPG - Applications |
|
| |
Prime Power
The generator is used as the only source of electricity where utility service is unavailable or costly to install and use. Prime Power generators have no limit on the annual hours of use. The full rated output is available 24 hours a day at varying load. McCormick Macnaughton offer supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the equipment. After the sale we can provide maintenance contracts and a full range of spare parts to ensure trouble free operation of the equipment.Typical applications: Quarries, Offshore applications, Mining.

|
| |
Stand-by Power
The generator is used as a back up source of electricity to the utility service during power outages. The full rated output is available for the entire duration of the outage under varying load conditions.Standby generators can be started manually with manual transfer of load. Most applications, however, call for the system to be completely automatic. In the event of a utility failure, the generator will start automatically and take load in approximately 10 seconds using an automatic load transfer panel. When the mains returns, load will be automatically transferred back and the generator will stop, ready for the next outage.All equipment can be supplied, delivered, installed and commissioned by McCormick Macnaughton. Caterpillar control panels are compatible with switchgear supplied by other manufacturers.
E.g. Any application where loss of mains power brings a risk to life, machinery or productivity.Typical applications: Quarries, Offshore applications, Mining.

Peak Lopping
The generator is used as an energy management device during periods of high utility cost per kW hour. The high cost, maximum demand period is generally 2-3 hours, Monday to Friday during the months of November to February.During these peaks, it is very costly for the utility provider to generate electricity. Therefore they charge a much higher rate.Users can realise very significant savings by generating their own power during these periods, especially if use is made of an existing standby generator. Utility suppliers positively encourage end users to put in their own supply for this very purpose.Control systems can be anything from a simple keystart genset to very sophisticated controls where the generator synchronises to the mains supply. In such applications, the user will see no break in their electricity supply during transfer form generator to mains and vice versa.McCormick Macnaughton can provide advice on Energy Management systems; turnkey installation and service and maintenance contracts to ensure complete peace of mind to the end user.
