Scrap, Demolition and Material Handling |
| |
Caterpillar offers a wide range of products and services designed specifically to help customers keep operating costs low in the competitive scrap and demolition industries. From Material Handlers to utility machines, Caterpillar has products that achieve fast cycle times, excellent fuel economy and high efficiency.
Cat Material Handlers are the reliable workhorses in the day-in, day-out, tough scrap yard environment. Easy to operate and cost effective to run, these aggressive machines deliver fast, mobile and efficient performance, whether equipped with a grapple or a magnet. Track and wheeled material handlers with 2 and 3 piece fronts are available. Material handlers can also be modified for custom mountings.
Cat Wheel Loaders let you match needs to specific jobs with features like solid or foam-filled tires, suspension seats, and special buckets and tools. Their versatility and flexibility translate into efficiencies and economies unmatched in the industry.
Demolition contractors can rely on Caterpillar's full line of excavators matched with hammers, pulverisers, shears, and grapples. An optional combined function auxiliary hydraulics feature makes changing from one tool to another quick and easy.
The support line-up includes Caterpillar Track-type Tractors, Integrated Toolcarriers, Off-highway and Articulated Trucks, Generator Sets, and Industrial Engines. Plus, all are backed by the exceptional service and support of McCormick Macnaughton.
Since Caterpillar serves customers with different requirements in all regions of the world, they build several different configurations of material handling and demolition products. Certain models are available only in specific areas. McCormick Macnaughton has the exact machine specifications available in your area and can help you choose the machine configuration that best meets your needs. |

Scrap & Material |
|
Whether you are processing scrap, unloading barges, working in millyards or have special needs, McCormick Macnaughton has a machine for you. A complete line of material handlers on both track and wheels has been purpose designed and built for your demanding industry. These aggressive machines deliver fast, mobile and efficient performance whether equipped with a grapple, clamshell bucket or magnet.
Caterpillar's full line of hydraulically driven DC generator sets ranging from 15-60 kW can power a wide range of magnets. A Caterpillar state-of-the-art electronic magnet controller and generator are linked to provide trouble-free service. The solid state controller completely eliminates traditional contactor maintenance and it is supported and warranted through McCormick Macnaughton.
Knowing there are many customers in various industries, Caterpillar has designed and built material handlers for custom mountings. Material Handlers can be electrified, mounted to rail car lowers and set on pedestals to fit your special applications.

Scrapers |
| |
Cat wheeled tractor scrapers are a tremendous productivity tool in landfill cell construction. Their ability to cut, haul and unload in one cycle makes them efficient on short hauls. A wheeled tractor scraper is well suited to climbing steep grades out of a landfill cell and traversing poor underfoot clay, sand and moist soil terrain. The wheeled tractor scraper will cut and load a wide variety of materials, a useful characteristic when cell construction encounters a sand, soil or clay seam.
Caterpillar offers 5 configurations of scrapers: tandem-engine push/pulls, tandem engine, standard open-bowl, elevator and auger scrapers. The 631EII through the 657E models are equipped with engines using HEUI (pronounced Hooey) fuel systems for better engine economy and power output. Caterpillar equips its Wheeled Tractor Scrapers with both eight-speed semi-automatic power shift and six-speed full power shift transmissions. Caterpillar's Wheeled Tractor Scrapers are also equipped with a locking differential that is operator controlled and rigidly connects both tractor drive wheels for positive traction. By reducing the potential for wheel slippage, Cat machines produce less wear and better fuel economy. A cushion hitch on the 621F through the 657E models absorbs haul road shocks, stabilising the machine during travel and allowing the operator to run the machine confidently at higher speeds. A hydraulic retarder, optional on all but the 651E and 657E where it is standard equipment, further contributes to operator confidence and therefore site productivity.

Track Loaders |
| |
Track loaders are highly versatile machines with the traction, drawbar pull and lifting capabilities to work with soil, trash, recyclables, construction/demolition materials and compost. In smaller landfills where fleet sizes are minimal, track loaders can serve both the waste handling and cover material functions. A variety of buckets further enable the versatility of the machine allowing it to doze, grapple, excavate, stockpile, sort and load. Track loaders achieve good compaction densities on sites where compactors are not an option. Filling the bucket with soil increases its compaction abilities. Track loaders also have the speed and versatility to take waste from the tipping pad and feed compactors working the face. On larger, busy landfills, this method eliminates the compactor's need to spread and doze the waste before compacting. Caterpillar builds these one-machine work forces to withstand the rugged waste environment. Waste handling arrangements are available on the Cat¨953, 963 and 973 models.
General Features for all models include:
hydrostatic drive for smooth handling and counter rotation of tracks providing outstanding maneuverability in waste.
A rear-mounted engine and radiator provides the operator with better visibility to the primary working tool and allows the radiator to stay cleaner longer.
Double grouser tracks are standard and provide all-around performance with good ride and traction characteristics. Single grouser tracks are optional and offer better chopping and traction characteristics. A third choice, the chopper track shoe, is available but better suited to transfer stations and construction and demolition materials.
Bucket Options include a general purpose bucket, multi-purpose bucket (useful because it allows the operator to grasp and sort large, unwieldy items, and special waste handling buckets that include: trash racks, quick couplers, and forks. The Cat track loader can also be equipped with a ripper-scarifier for handling frozen or hard ground.
The 953 is offered with a waste package that includes seal guard protection, Syklone prescreen filter, heavy-duty swing-out radiator grill and light guards. The 963 and 973 machines are larger and more commonly found in waste applications. As a result, Caterpillar offers a more comprehensive guarding package that includes final drive, pivot shaft and idler seal guards as well as swing-out bottom guards, a hydraulic tank guard, heavy duty fender guards, engine enclosures and light guards.
Additional guarding options include heavy-duty rear bumper, idler recoil guards, tilt cylinder guards, final drive abrasion guards, hinged windshield screen, third valve line guard, high ambient powertrain oil cooler and rear striker bars.
